Newborn Photography and why Safety is the top Priority.
Ever wondered how we get babies into some of the positions we share online? Here is an example of the work I do. A lot of editing is done behind the scenes and should not be attempted at home.
Please do not put your babies at risk and when choosing a photographer whether is it myself or another always be vigilant about your baby.
You should be with your baby at all times sat nearby with hands on or very close to your baby.
When the photographer is taking images she/he cannot stop a baby falling, that is why it is important to be hands on from you the parent.
Many people ask how do you get a baby to do that and more horrifying say to me why doesn't my baby sit in that position or do that.
The fancy photographs you see of babies for example in large hats, buckets and in certain positions with their arms under chin are mostly done through composites - A series of photos when over lapped in the editing stages make the picture you see with no hands or anything in the photograph.
So why are we so expensive when you can get it cheaper in a high street store?
A lot of work goes into editing after your session, some edits often taking an hour or more just for one image.
Safety to us is important we would rather have a hand or full parent body in the image and edit out later over leaving a baby unaided and at risk.
The time and effort we put into training which is often thousands of pounds to get the correct amount of training to keep your child safe is why we are as expensive as we and because of the after time and care to create your perfect newborn babies images.
So why not a high street store they cheaper and often instant choice?
Cheaper does not always mean better. Ever wondered how these people got the way they did? Often hired on selling skills and trained with a doll. Very basic posing and basic training. Most have little or no photography skills.
Trained in the most robotic way to get you in and out as fast as possible with the highest spend they can get from you. Also no editing really involved why? Because their targets and priority are the sales.
Also hear so many horror stories of children falling off of high up platforms because they are not secure or safe. Photographer/Sales person wants parent to step away for a split second to look at a camera screen? All it takes is one second to fall and even newborn babies wriggle.
When searching for a newborn photographer or any photographer for any reason always think safety first not whoever is cheapest.
Whether you choose Blue Moon Portraits or another photographer ask yourself and your photographer is my baby safe.
In the UK there is an amazing association called the BANP (British Association of Newborn Photographers) whose members are chosen on their safety and skills with newborns.
Their site can direct new parents to photographers in their area.
So whoever you choose you know that they follow a code of conduct to keep your new baby safe at all times and provide you with the best of care.
Always think of safety first and choose a photographer whose style you like.
Example of newborn safety above.
"Super excited right now"
Exciting news today. I have been accepted as a member of the BANP - British Association of Newborn Photographers.
They are a brilliant association whose members follow a code of conduct with every client - newborn and parents. Each photographer strives to do more than their best with quality, customer care and most of all the safety of the babies they photograph.
Being a member is a bit like any trade you would expect a high standard from, just like cowboy builders there can be cowboy photographers that sadly don't understand all the safety and care a newborn needs.
By being a member whether you choose myself or any of the other members of the BANP you will be assured they know what they are doing and will take care of your needs and your newborn.
FROM THEIR SITE
Who are they?
We are the foremost group of leading newborn photographers dedicated to ensuring your baby's comfort and safety whilst creating beautiful images for you to treasure. We strive to encourage high standards of customer service, quality images and safe practise across the profession of newborn photography.
What we do...
We advocate newborn safety when photographing babies at all times. We are here to help parents find a specialist newborn photographer in their area, and to support and help train newborn photographers nationally.
I have created a session aimed for teens who want to know what its like to be a mini model, to have a fun time and get fun relaxed images. Birthday sessions are a great time to get them done but these can be done any time.
Though this is aimed at 13-17 this can be available for any ages.
A hair and make up artist will also be available for the session so a few looks can be achieved.
Exciting cant wait to start this adventure with Magnifique HairandBeauty!
Above was the first young lady for her 13th birthday she got a session with myself (Lynsey) and Donna. Great fun and amazing!
Thought to myself yes I will do a blog every other day... totally has not worked out that way.
I have been so busy in the studio and running around trying to keep up with all the editing.
I have had so many beautiful babies and older families in recently and created so many happy memories for so many families.
I also decided it was now a good idea to move the studio around so on the weekend I did a huge swap around and now I have a lovely wall of fake look wallpaper on it for photos with a difference (see image).
Also got my gorgeous montage canvas up on the wall from my new supplier and today have been busy deciding on how to take the business to a new level with products.
With Canvas's already on offer, I have now sourced a lovely new USB supplier which hopefully will be coming in from middle of July. These USB's will be branded with the studio name and will look great hopefully with a lovely presentation box to keep them safe in.
Also announced on facebook today was the new prices that will be coming into effect from July 15th.
This was the announcement.
"Slight Change on the pricing structure these are the introductory prices and will only be available until the 15th of July. at which point each will rise by £20-£40 in price size dependant.
20x16 inches is £40
20x20 inches (square) is £45
20x24 inches is £50
20x30 inches is £55.
Extra Large size 24x36 will also be available for just £65!
Also USB prices will be rising by £20 due to a new supplier coming on board and being more expensive for me to source, which means offers combining shoot and USB's will be a wee bit higher but will still try to do the best offers I can for all my customers to give you all the best quality."
Looking forward to my next shoot due in on Thursday :)
Well since yesterday I have been non stop..... I have done two shoots one 2 week old wee boy yesterday and his big sister. The wee fella didnt want to sleep at all but we still managed to get some amazing shots.
Today since the morning started I have not stopped moving, Preparing for a morning shoot with a gorgeous wee girl.
It was a session rescheduled from a few weeks ago the little princess did not want to be put down. Its amazing how going from newborn 3ish weeks to 6 weeks can make such a difference. Looked at the pics from the first time with mum and she has almost doubled in size super alert very strong and very smiley. Amazing for the age she is.
After that great morning spend all day editing and ordering art prints for this weekends craft fair at the St James Church in Lossiemouth.... Im a dreadful church goer not been there since we got married last year. I can see Graham the minister giving me a row for that one.
Also last but not least today I helped another amazing photographer from Greenock name her new camera strap company. After all my random idea's including strapping stuff, straps with love and starstraps..... She eventually settled for the one I came up with called "Strap Me To The Moon"!!!!
Exciting stuff having another one of my names picked for a company and really glad to have been able to help Karen of Damselfly Photography in Greenock name her new venture making camera straps and other camera accessories.
I have added a picture of one of her beautiful straps and if any of you are looking for a camera strap with a difference her facebook page to get them is.... https://www.facebook.com/StrapMeToTheMoon.
Love and Hugs I defo need to go to bed.
So here we are finally jumping on the blog bandwagon. So lets start with a bit about me.
I am Lynsey Jones as your on my page you will see that my main passion is photography.
It started as a hobby and went crazy from there.
I am married to a lovely man who supports my hobby and understands my bizarre addiction to buying blankets.
I love creating beautiful images for families and hope to become an award winning photographer one day.
I started out seven years ago making bacon rolls and cleaning up after people in an asda cafe. It was not what I would call at 18 an amazing career.
One fed up night I decided to search for jobs and found a job saying photographers wanted... no experience necessary. Thinking this is to good to be true but what the hell I found myself applying anyway.
Little did I know this would be the start of my journey to find my biggest love and get me to where I am today.
Working for Pixifoto gave me the basic experience I needed. After a few years with them I found myself more creative and fed up with all the hard selling. I wanted more I wanted to be able to create images people wanted rather than tell someone they had to buy it there and then.
After leaving them I tried my hand at outdoor photography, weddings, got a basic studio and continued as a hobby but there was only so much could do mobile.
Eventually after drifting with the hobby I found my husband who made me see that I was better than I gave myself credit for. After getting married (well should say it was a whirlwind wedding within six months) I went on and did photo shoots for friends and neighbours to gain more experience. Teaching myself as I went.
Last summer Blue Moon Portraits was born. The name getting its meaning from an actual blue moon (not the smurfs) the saying once in a blue moon to be exact.
A blue moon occurs every three years, much like the time scale people update the pictures on their walls.
So now we have almost reached summer 2013 and am now starting to find my worth. My prices will be rising and I will be focusing on newborn, children and family photography. Removing weddings, parties and events from my services.
I will still offer boudoir photography but it will be enquiry only for those sessions and will not be publicly advertised except in the run up to valentines day.
So there we go...... From now will try to keep upto date with blog sessions and go from there. If your a new customer reading this then welcome I look forward to hearing from you.
And to those who have already been I cannot thank you enough for your support and custom.
